| Water Safety Training Classroom Instruction & Pool Certification
|
Water safety certification is a
requirement for any physical education teacher or walk-on coach
who deals with "on deck" water sports/classes.
The certification includes two components, Safety
Training for Swim Coaches and Basic
Water Safety. The certification is valid for three years
from the date of the original training. If the three year certification
ends for teachers/coaches before they have completed their coaching
or physical education water assignments for this year, they should
plan to attend training to assure that their certification covers
them for the entire school year.
Water certification is an extremely important issue because of the
changes in first aid and the potential for injury and associated
liability issues.
This training is still offered to those individuals who need it
at no final cost to them; however, a $35.00 deposit is required
to register for class. The rules are the same as those
for CPR/First Aid. (All checks will
be returned or destroyed by the school site for individuals who
attend the training. The check for individuals who sign-up but do
not attend will be sent to Instructional Resources and will be cashed
by the district. This procedure is needed to assure that fixed workshop
costs are covered with the trainer.)

Monday, October 13, 2008 at the District Aquatics Office*
from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (Afternoon portion continued
at the Grossmont High School Pool)
Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the District Aquatics Office*
from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (Afternoon portion continued
at the Grossmont High School Pool)
Class size is limited, so please
contact your V.P. Athletics Secretary as soon as possible if you
need to sign up for a class.

Class Locations
|
District Aquatics Office is
located on the Grossmont High School campus between the baseball
and football fields, inside the blue trailer.
(Participants
will be notified if the class is scheduled at an alternative location.)

Water Safety Training
registration will be handled by the V.P. Athletics Secretary at
your school site. If you need to attend the training, please
do not contact Instructional Resources directly
unless you have a Water Safety Training question. Instructional
Resources does not register participants for training.
The training will begin promptly at 8:00a.m. (lecture portion of the
instruction). After the lecture, the participants will meet at the Pool
for the "hands-on" portion of the certification. Please call
